The challenge facing Christian education in our church today is
the same as it has always been: namely to empower the whole people of God, both lay and
ordained, to embrace the Gospel life by deepening their relationship with God and by
offering their lives in service to the world in which they live. Such empowerment comes
primarily from ongoing engagement of mind, heart, and spirit with Jesus and the story of
Jesus, in whom we come to know about God's love for us and for the whole world in a
tangible way. Thus, Christian education cannot be confined only to what occurs in the
education hour before worship on Sunday. Rather, Christian education is education about
and into a way of life a life of faith which is practiced in Christian communities,
grasped ever more fully by the heart, and willingly poured out in love for the sake of the
world. |
