INSTALLATION OF KEYMAN PROGRAM STEP 1: INSTALL KEYBOARD SOFTWARE. Run the file GreekClassical.exe. It will install the program in Programs/Tavultesoft/Keyman after asking your permission to do so. STEP 2: OPEN KEYMAN software. The next step is to open Keyman: Run "Keyman" (You will find it at Start/Programs/Tavultesoft Keyman). To automatically load whenever Windows starts, select that under the "Options" tab in configuration. STEP 3: TEST IN ANY UNICODE APPLICATION. The MS Word document "fonttest.doc" will help you test this. Use the hotkey (Alt-Z) to switch from English to Greek, and begin typing in Greek. If it doesn't work, reboot the computer (Windows sometimes needs a reboot to properly pick up a new font). STEP 4: SELECT THE PROPER FONT I recommend New Athena Unicode as the best font. If you don't want to download it, Palatino Linotype (which comes with Windows 2000/XP) should work just fine. STEP 5: TURN THE GREEK KEYBOARD OFF. To switch back to your normal keyboard, press the toggle hotkey (ALT-Z) again. In Windows 2000/NT/XP, you can use the keyboard with any Unicode application, such as MS Word, Notepad, etc. Under Windows 9x or ME, it will only work with MS Word, and only if you install the special Word add-in during the installation of the full Keyman package. Most characters are as you would expect, but note: eta = h, theta = q, xi = c or j, chi = x, psi = y (psy). Sigma at the beginning or middle of a word is automatically converted to final sigma at the end of a word when you press the SPACE key. Accent marks (select AFTER the vowel): / for acute accent, \ for grave accent, = for circumflex accent, ] for smooth breathing mark, [ for rough breathing mark | for iota, + for diaresis. To combine an accent with a breathing mark just type one after the other. Hitting the same accent or breathing mark that a character already has will remove it. (For capital letters, the breathing mark should be selected BEFORE other marks!) To uninstall: Select Uninstall under Start/Programs/Tavultesoft Keyman.
